3GPP Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Dec 15, 2008
9th December 2008 - There was cause for celebration in Athens, as the Partners came together to celebrate 10 years of 3GPP.

The celebration was a mix of the generations, as the founding fathers of 3GPP came together with the new wave of engineers who have helped to deliver the LTE standard.

3GPP, a global partnership uniting Asia, Europe and the US, has succeeded in delivering a family of standards used in the vast majority of the World’s mobile networks. Indeed, more than half of the World’s population (more than 3 billion people) use a mobile phone which is based on 3GPP’s results.

Having completed 10 very productive years, 3GPP has now set its course for the future, having planned the evolution of this family of standards towards the 4th Generation and beyond.
