TSG RAN – Radio Access Network

3G systems should be based on new wide band, multimode, flexible radio access. This approach will ensure that systems based on 3GPP specifications will be capable of rapid development and deployment of competitive service offerings while still enabling global roaming.

Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network (TSG RAN) is responsible for the definition of the functions, requirements and interfaces of the RAN. More precisely:

• Radio performance, physical layer, layer 2 and layer 3 RR specification in UTRAN/E-UTRAN and beyond;
• Specification of the access network interfaces (Iu, Iub, Iur, S1 and X2);
• Definition of the O&M requirements in UTRAN/E-UTRAN and beyond; and
• Conformance testing for User Equipment and Base Stations.

Terms of Reference

The latest terms of reference were approved at OP35_09 and  prepared during  RAN#71.
